Fort Lauderdale & Pompano Beach

Whether you’re looking for adventure and exciting water sports, or sandy beaches to relax on, or even fine dining, Fort Lauderdale has something for you. This was once a haven for spring breakers but today has been made over and accommodates a quite different clientele. Sometimes compared to Miami in terms of style and fun, Fort Lauderdale is definitely more affordable than its southern neighbour.

Twenty miles of excellent beaches and the warm waters here are the biggest draw. Water sports are plentiful and if you’re into snorkelling or diving then look no further for exotic fish and colourful corals amongst the old wrecks here. Cultural, historical and social activities can also be found here aplenty. The Broward Centre for the Performing arts, Museum of Discovery and Science, Museum of Art and the historic Stranahan House can all be found in the downtown area and are within walking distance of each other.
If you find yourself fed up with the beach, you could try heading to Las Olas Boulevard the most charming thoroughfare in Fort Lauderdale. From chic boutiques to galleries, fancy restaurants to sidewalk cafes, this is a fabulous place to be. It is considered by many to be the most exciting and beautiful street in the area by locals and visitors alike.

Pompano Beach
An ideal beach holiday destination Pompano Beach is sometimes referred to as ‘the jewel of the south Atlantic coast’. It may be smaller than neighbouring Fort Lauderdale, but its three miles of sandy beachfront offers a wide array of things to do and see.

The water along this stretch of coastline is some of the clearest and warmest you’ll find in Florida because of the Gulf Stream making swimming, snorkelling and diving very popular here. The unique three tiered natural reef system that begins about 100yrds from the shore at about 20ft deep and then continues out till it’s over 100ft deep offers some very special opportunities. More than 75 artificial reefs have been added over the last twenty years, and so there are plenty of opportunities to explore the marine life here.

Fishing is also a side benefit of the coral reefs, and there are lots of charter open sea fishing excursions available as well as boat fishing and pier fishing, and of course some of the finest calibre seafood restaurants too.
Butterfly world offers a tropical rain forest aviary that is the largest butterfly habitat in the world and there are many thousands of butterflies to be seen here – wearing bright colours attracts them more and you’re almost certain to be landed on if you do. Humming birds, lorikeets, an insectarium, waterfalls and more can also be found here.

Golfing and horse riding are also big sports locally, and so whether you’re looking for calm or lively, sporting, shopping, or just relaxation amongst nature Pompano beach could offer you the perfect holiday destination.
